Blizzard Worldwide Invitational Paris ‘08

Yesterday we got a chance to play the new expansion, Wrath of the Lich King and it seems we’ll be playing more World of Warcraft after all.

With the biggest crowd and the longest queues I’ve ever seen on any event, we were even forced to leave the expo to queue for food in the local shops. But it was all worth it, as we got to play the new Death Knight Hero class, run around the new areas of Northrend and play some boring game called Starcraft II :P

And let’s not forget the goodie bag, containing an in-game pet code, a beta key for a Blizzard title (yes we still don’t know which one) and a bunch of nice Blizzard gear.

So, thanks Blizzard. You’ll still have us playing your silly game in 2009 … once more. Check out the other pictures!

Iceland

Blue Lagoon

Back from our company trip to Iceland! And just spent an hour uploading some of the best pictures for you all to enjoy!

Click here for the slideshow! (to see the other 400 pictures, I’d suggest you come over for a drink ;))

svencharleer.com is alive!

Once every x years I decide to throw myself at some web design again. And with registering svencharleer.com a while ago, I felt it was a good time to try again.

So, go check it out! Hope some of you like it. Because I’m getting rusty ;) Developing software and gaming seems to work out better for me :P

(I’ll leave comments open on this post for a while, in case anyone feels like giving some feedback)

Small update: Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like on Mac. Way better than the Windows version sadly enough… Fonts make a real difference.

Flickr Memory

Don’t know if anyone actually uses iGoogle, but if you do, why not give this little gadget I made a try. It’s nothing spectacular, but I never heard of a jaw-dropping Memory game either.

Yes, the good old Memory game. Something I thought more people would know! If you are part of that strange group that doesn’t, well, just find two of the same hidden images by clicking on the squares. Yes it’s that simple. Just try to do it in as few clicks possible.

Oh and the great thing is, it uses Flickr. Just go to its settings, type in the tag of your choice and you can play with anything ranging from kitties to girlies.

So, go on and install Flickr Memory, or check here to put the little game on your own site :P

Any comments always welcome through Twitter.

Comments are OFF

And spam finally won…

The spam protection on the blog just won’t do. And manually approving/deleting comments was becoming a real hassle (about 20 spam comments a day). So, currently, no more comments. Feel free to go to Vimeo to comment on our videos (more soon), Flickr for picture commenting and Twitter if you want to send me some messages.

Soon things will change though. Soon!

Visiting Iwona & Franky

Here’s a little video of our trip to London two weeks ago. Thanks Iwona & Francis, for the awesome weekend, the home-made pizza at midnight, the very loud but beautiful Beijing opera and the great hospitality!

Married you say?

Ha! We got married. And if you’re surprised, we did a good job hiding it from you :P Don’t worry if you weren’t invited. No one was! Sort of.

We planned to do it just among us two, but then we needed witnesses it seemed. So we got Kurt and Lies. But then we decided our parents might just wanna be there anyway. So we invited them…

It stopped there though. We’ve been to enough weddings to know what we don’t want. We didn’t want to waste lots of money nor did we want to turn it into a boring family event. We’ve seen all sorts of traditional weddings… and no thanks. Didn’t seem like a fun thing to do.

And did you know marrying for city hall only takes 15 minutes? And since we didn’t marry for church, well, it was over quite quickly :D We just headed to Eigenwijs in Sint-Niklaas for an amazing dinner, went back to our place for a drink and kicked everyone out before 7pm! We had the entire evening for ourselves! Not for drunk uncles and aunts ;) I think we made the right decision.

Yep, it was a wonderful day. Dry and sunny morning, lots of rain when we were inside enjoying dinner. We couldn’t ask for more on a December day.

So go ahead and check the entire set of pictures, or the slide show, and make sure to check my favorite picture of the bunch!

A big thanks to Jonas Leriche, awesome photographer and good friend, for taking time to hang with us and take pics.

We’ll have more media available soon though, more people with cams were present :P

Whoops, almost lost 5Dollarshake.com

Well, not really. But still. I didn’t get any warning emails telling me I had to renew my domain, so while checking my site yesterday I found out it was gone. After quickly renewing it, I noticed they changed the name servers as well… so it ended up NOT pointing at my web hosting.

All is back to normal now. Sorry for the inconvenience. And I do hope I didn’t miss too many important emails…

More updates soon as promised to some of you ;) A little patience! :P

Wishlist!

We haven’t been gaming much lately, except for the occasional WoW instance. Busy with all sorts of things and games have been moved to a less important position. Meanwhile we’re running behind on so many good titles! And the list gets longer each day!

It’s at this point where it is too expensive to buy them all at once :/ So I decided to make a list ordered by what we want most first… (titles include future releases up until Xmas). Hopefully Santa will bring us some along!

01. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
02. Mass Effect (360)
03. Ratchet & Clank (PS3)
04. Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)
05. The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass (DS)
06. Every Extend Extra Extreme (360)
07. Heavenly Sword (PS3)
08. Folklore (PS3)
09. Unreal Tournament 3 (PC)
10. Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck (DS)
11. Assassin’s Creed (PS3)
12. Singstar (PS3)
13. Halo 3 (360)

I’m sure I forgot some though… Maybe we should put “more holidays” on our Xmas list as well…

Changes…

Nike

No, I am not going to promise more updates, we all know that never works out…

I have actually begun running a few weeks ago, thanks to Tom. He decided to get healthier, quit smoking and get some exercise. He lasted a week or 3 and now he’s back to his old habits. Nice try mate!

When I start with something new, I usually spend too much money on it, before I even begin. I remember when I wanted to start drawing again… yes that material is collecting dust somewhere still.

Anyway, I got myself some Nike+ shoes, the Nike+ sensor thing and some Nike+ .. clothes. Nike+ allows you to track your progress online as it gives you stats on distance, speed and pace, the kind of extras I need to stay motivated ;) Together with this Start to Run podcast, I managed to complete 8 late night runs (somewhere between 10pm and 2am, less people to see you run!) up until I hurt my knee and now I’m on a one week break… No I’m not quitting, the knee is better and I should be running one of these days again soon!

One of these days does sound like quitting, doesn’t it. Well, no worries, we have a backup plan. I have actually subscribed to a gym, or health center, whatever you like to call it. When Elke saw me run, she decided she needed to do some sports as well, so I joined her on a tour at our local gym, with NO intention whatsoever to join myself. Yes I left with a 3 month subscription…

Well, not that it’s a bad thing. Together with my running I should be able to get a bit in shape again, and lose those 10 kilos I gained these last 4 years. Now all that is left is to change my food habits and a healthier me is guaranteed! … I hope :D
