We’re Back!

And we’ve moved. No not another appartment, a different hosting account. Doing so meant we couldn’t use the Movable Type (MT) license we shared with Level Up!, and because we’re too cheap to buy our own, we had to find another solution.

The free license of MT didn’t allow us to do what we do now, so I turned to another weblog engine, Wordpress, brought to my attention a while ago by uninvited. At the time he showed this, I wasn’t amazed, but playing around with this engine for 2 days now, made me realise this was a neat application, allowing more freedom in modification and complete dynamic pages.

It did require alot of work though. You’d think the Import Movable Type posts function would solve the problem, but using a non standard weblog layout didn’t make the rest of the work much easier.

After late hours of manual MT tags to Wordpress php functions conversion, we started noticing the two column structure would cause some problems. Google didn’t help either. Lots of people had left the multiple category/author idea because no one could find a solution. (or my google skills are leaving me)

The only choices left? Go back to MT or change some core Wordpress code. Now we are really cheap, so why spend money if you can waste time. It wasn’t wasted though, because thanks to some ugly hack in the code, the two column version can continue to exist … for free ;)

Anyway, I hope it remains stable. If you run into any bugs, let me know. Enjoy!

(Yes I know the images are still linked to the Level Up! account, but they don’t mind me stealing their bandwidth ;) No just kidding, I’m fixing that first time tomorrow. Honestly! ;))

Final Fantasy XI

Final Fantasy XI

It’s been two years since the original launch of the multi-platform (PS2/PC) Final Fantasy XI in Japan. Finally it’s coming to Europe, with 2 expansion packs (to make up for the wait?), on September 16th.

I was really happy about the news, until I googled some more today, finding out that we will not, I repeat NOT, be getting the Playstation2 version.

Since I switched to mac, this makes it even worse, although the company laptop should have no problem with the game. Thank god the minimum requirements are a 800mhz PC (remember, the game is 2 years old), so it should run super pretty, unlike Doom 3. The only problem I have is that I quit PC gaming months ago and prefer to focus on couch/tv/ps2/cube.

Anyone have a solution? Will the import PS2 version work here? Anything? Please help :( And no I’m not buying a new PC.

Pukkelpop Live

Seeing the weather outside I’m not sad to have no holidays left nor the money to go to Pukkelpop. Even better, we can follow the festival live on Skynet! Cheaper and hotter.

Not quite the festival experience but a great substitute ;)

Why you should see Praga Khan ;p

Praga Khan

Okay, a band is good or bad depending on how they play live. Hearing Praga Khan live is great, but seeing them.. is even better ;p The pictures don’t show alot since we weren’t that close to the stage, but do the words “stripping behind white screen, chicks in thongs shaking it, girls pole dancing” help you understand? ;)

The girlfriend wants to go and see them in November? No problem!

Marktrock at Louvain

Praga Khan

Yesterday was fantastic… ! We went at Louvain to see Marktrock. Once a year Louvain turns into a big music festival. This year we just went for one day, Saturday. Lucky for us it didn’t rain..

So, arrived in Louvain, we got our ‘green bracelet’. Normally, you have to pay each time you enter the ‘Oude Markt’. The ‘Oude Markt’ is the biggest stage on Marktrock and you have to pay for entrance.. the other stages are free for entrance. Because of Sven’s dad - who got VIP bracelets via a collegue from work - we got free entrance the whole night.

Arrived at the ‘Oude Markt’ we first drank a coke while listening to Novastar. I like Novastar because of the emotion you can find in their songtexts. And.. Joost on the piano really is a good singer too!

And of course, the main reason I went to Louvain, was to see PRAGA KHAN!!! I’ve been listening to their music now for several years and I can’t get enough of them! I think it’s because Maurice isn’t really an ordinary singer. He’s special in every way.. the way he dresses.. the acts in his show on stage.. (u can ask Sven about that :p).

So, I really enjoyed his show yesterday.. It was spectacular and the music was great. I’m really looking forward to see Praga Khan at Sint-Niklaas on November the 26th!

Zombies Ate My Neighbours

Dawn of the Dead

If this title means nothing to you, you missed one of the better games on the Super Ninendo… but that’s got nothing to do with this post ;) Although it does a little, since this week has been a bit of a Zombie week for us.

First of all there’s Doom 3, which gave us quite a couple of scares (add 20 years to my life and I’d be death from a heart attack). Thank god for the low frame rate I’m getting on the company’s laptop ;) The low detail helps aswell in making it a less scary experience.

This week we also went to see Dawn of the Dead, a remake of the old horror movie, which was actually pretty damn good. A must see for any horror fan. Next up the parody, a romantic zombie flick called Shaun of the Dead, which was released this week, but we’re still saving up to go ;p

And because we still have no cable and are obliged to watch our dvd collection over and over again, we watched Resident Evil for the 20th time. Good news is that the trailer of the sequal is finally available, although I seemed to prefer the teaser :s (still, Milla Jovovich joins the cast again, so I’m not complaining). And while we’re talking monsters, check out the Alien vs Predator trailers. I for one can’t wait to see the movie (I’m an Alien addict ;p)

Last Zombie encounter of the week… the girlfriend playing 10+ hours a day Harvest Moon? … :D I’m sleeping on the couch tonight I guess :(

Help! I want TV!

A month and a half ago, we moved into this appartment..
As we were supposed to, we called the cable distribution to install the TV cable so that we could see TV.
Today the third employee came by to discover that there’s a piece missing and - what did you think - that piece is necessary to connect the cable. So we still don’t have TV. I told the man that he is the third one who comes by to see what the other two already saw…
Now, wanna know why that piece is still missing? Our dear owner here, hasn’t payed the bill yet! So we won’t have that plug installed unless he pays his bill. (he’s got that bill a few weeks ago!)
Thanks again to our owner :S
gha gha … (I’m getting nuts by now - living without television for a month and a half)

Moving… again?

When renting an appartment, they forget to tell you “Welcome to Hell”. With still no cable for a month now (the owner didn’t think it was necessairy to connect the building to the cable distribution, so we’re still waiting for that to be fixed), I tend to go a little loco, style Homer Simpson’s -No beer and no tv makes homer go … -Crazy? -Don’t mind if I do! HOOHABOOGIEBOOGIE etc.

Yesterday we arrive at our front door to find that we are not, no, bus 3 but bus 2. Oh hang on, according to the owner that’s b2, not bus 2. So I’m guessing the b stands for bullshit. Anyhoo, since we just got the wrong info and no one informed us at all, we can have our brand new passports changed… again, call the bank etc… again, to tell them about our new address.

So, for all of you people receiving a card with our new address (if you don’t have it yet, it’s on its way.. still nothing, then I don’t know where you live, inform me damn it! ;p), change the bus 3 into bus 2. Now spread the word… *sigh :(

Meteorites heading for Earth!

… as big as your… well actually I don’t know. But today our little blue planet is traveling through the Perseid meteor storm, left-overs from the comet P/Swift-Tuttle.

This means that tonight and tomorrow night it’s not a bad idea to go outside and stare at the skies, because there will be an average of 60 “falling stars” to be spotted every hour. Unless you’re as lucky as us, we got clouds! And clouds tend to block your view :(

Still, they’re here, and that’s all that counts ;)
